Hire the College facilities

During times when the College knows in advance it will have unused rooms, it is possible for outside groups to hire part of our facilities. Depending on the time of year, we can accommodate up to 12 people (September to March) or up to 25 people (April to July). Accommodation is in simple single bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities. Visiting groups are able to use at least one of the College teaching spaces, have access to the library and AV facilities, and use of the grounds and gardens.

We believe it is important for everyone who spends time at Schumacher College to help take care of the College facilities and each other. Visiting groups are therefore asked to participate in morning work groups (from 8:45 to 9:30) when people are involved in tasks such as preparing food, helping in the garden, and clearing up after meals. There is an option to join in evening meal preparation from 4:30 to 6:30, but this is not required. (Many visitors say afterwards that they would have loved the opportunity to be more involved with preparing our delicious vegetarian food, but of course a group may have too much programmed into the day to make this possible.)

The cost is £100 per person per day, which includes accommodation, all meals, snacks and beverages throughout the day, and use of a variety of teaching and meeting spaces in the Old Postern.

It may be possible, by prior arrangement, for one of the College’s resident teaching staff to give a talk to the group (Satish Kumar on soil, soul and society, Stephan Harding on Gaia theory/deep ecology) or to organise a tour of the Dartington Hall gardens or a visit to Dartmoor or the coast. An extra charge would be made for this.

The following dates are currently available:
